OP Trip Schedule Banner (2)

OP trips are designed for participants of all ability levels!  We are here to offer participants with quality back country experiences that  provide fun, educational, and immersion into the wild spaces that surround our campus. So, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a true beginner, join us for what is sure to be a semester of great adventures!

SPRING TRIP REGISTRATION  WILL OPEN ON TUESDAY JANUARY 20

  • In order to register for an OP trip, please stop by the Outdoor Pursuits office (Open M – F 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm) in Reynolds Gym room 213 to pay your trip deposit.  
  • A trip deposit of $10.00 for day trips and $25.00 for overnight trips MUST be paid at the time of trip registration to reserve you spot. 
    • ***Please note: Some trips may have deposits larger than this due to guide, camping, or permit fees that we have to pay in advance of trips***
  • Some trips will have a brief pre-trip meeting associated with it that will be scheduled for the week of the trip.  It is important to attend these meetings so that Trip Leaders can plan the best experience possible!   

Cancellation and Refund Policy
Full refunds will be given up to 7 days before the trip.  After this deadline, all fees are non-refundable. Full refunds will be given if OP cancels the trip for any reason. Refunds will NOT be given for location changes as all trip locations are subject to change due to weather, site closures,  and/or safety concerns.

January:

1/31 Ski/Snowboarding Trip: Winterplace, WV

  • Cost: $78 w/out Rental, $103 w/ ski rental, $117 w/ snowboard rental, $98 w/ rental and lesson
  • Come and join Outdoor Pursuits for a day of skiing and snowboarding at one of the south-east’s highest rated mountain resorts. Two leaders will accompany nine participants to Winterplace Resort in West Virginia. Offering twenty seven trails that accommodate a variety of skill levels, this trip is perfect for anyone.

February:

2/7 Day Hike: Stone Mountain State Park, NC

  • Cost: $10
  • Put on your hiking boots, grab some friends, and gear up for a fun-filled day of hiking with Julie and Khaki! Where!? The beautiful, one and only Stone Mountain!! When?! February 7th! (Pre-Valentine’s candy may be included.)

2/14 Ski/Snowboarding Trip: Winterplace, WV

2/21 Bouldering: Rumbling Bald, NC

  • Cost: $15
  • Join rockstar OP leaders Tim and Sarah P for a exhilarating day of bouldering at the iconic Rumbling Bald. All levels of climbing experience welcome! For only $15, enjoy a fun day of bouldering with fellow outdoor lovers.

2/28 Climbing Service Trip: TBD

  • Cost: FREE
  • New this semester, come join us for a day of service and climbing! We will be teaming up with the Carolina Climbers Coalition at a local climbing spot to do a morning of volunteer work on the trails and then stay and get in some climbing in the afternoon. This trip will be free of charge, so sign up soon before it fills up!

2/28-3/1 Winter Backpacking: Stone Mountain State Park, NC

  • Cost: $36
  • Come out and join Outdoor Pursuits for an incredible weekend of hiking through North Carolina’s famous Linville Gorge. Two guides will accompany nine students on a two night hike along the Mountains to Sea trail in the “Grand Canyon of the East.” No prior experience necessary

March:

 3/7 – 3/15 Backpacking and Rock Climbing: Zion National Park, UT and Red Rocks Canyon, NV (SPRING BREAK)

  • The OP crew will be taking a small group of participants to the famed canyon walls of Zion National Park and Red Rocks Canyon this spring break.  Over the course of our week we will spend 4 days in Zion backpacking and exploring the high desert of southern Utah.  After our short stint in Zion we will head back to Las Vegas where we will hole up on the outskirts of town rock climbing in the beautiful Red Rocks Canyon National Conservation Area.  Our days climbing will be spend in small groups trying our hands at a variety of short trad and sport climbs as well as provide opportunities for participants to climb some tall multi-pitch routes (experience dependent).  After our week in the wild, we will stay in a hotel on the last night and fly on Sunday March 15th back to the realities of campus life.
    This trip will begin at the Las Vegas airport on Saturday March 7th.  Participants will be responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Las Vegas.
  • Cost: $465.00 + Airfare (Each participant will be responsible for purchasing their own airfare to and from Las Vegas)
      This price includes: All back country food, technical equipment, personal climbing and backpacking gear, camping and back country permits, last night hotel stay, and rental vehicles.
  • Trip Registration Deadline:  FRIDAY FEB. 6
    • In order to reserve your spot on this trip a $225.00 deposit by this date. (This deposit is non-refundable after this date.)
    • Trip Payment Schedule: $25 initial deposit, $200 due by Feb. 6th, $240 due by Feb. 20
  • There will be 2 – 3 pre-trip meetings for this trip
    • Pre-Trip meeting: Wednesday Feb. 11 @ 6:00 pm
    • This is a mandatory meeting for all participants
  • This trip is limited to 8 participants and is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, so DON’T DELAY!!!

3/7 – 3/15 SE Sampler (Multi-Element Expedition): Pisgah Natl. Forest, NC (SPRING BREAK)

  • Outdoor Pursuits is excited to offer yet another incredible Spring Break opportunity. Join Lilias Gordon and Jake McCambley for a thrilling sampler of outdoor activities all throughout the South East. Starting off with a rigorous Backpacking excursion, we keep the tempo high as we jump into individual Kayaks to tackle the upper green river knocking out class 3 and 4 rapids. That same day we hop out of our boats for some waterfall rappelling, tackling another section of the river using only our hands, feet, and ropes.   As an additional possibility for the last day, we can take to the skies, joining the birds while hang gliding our way to the ground while observing all the beauty that North Carolina has to offer from high above.

3/21 Waterway Cleanup: TBD

  • Cost: FREE
  • Join OP for our inaugural River Clean Trip on March 21st! We will use kayaks to help clean up a section of the Yadkin River! This trip is a great way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning giving back to mother earth while starting a new OP tradition! This trip is FREE OF COST to participants, so sign up early to ensure your spot!

3/21 Beginner Climbing: Pilot Mountain, NC

  • Cost: $10
  • Come join us for a great day of climbing fun at the beautiful pilot mountain. Get your heart pumping with an adrenalin inducing aerial experience

3/28 SKY DIVING!!! : TBD

  • Cost: $260
    • There is a $50 deposit for this trip
  • We will be taking nine lucky Wake Forest classmates to go skydiving on March 28th. We will be using North Carolina Skydiving, located in Jonesville (45 minutes away from campus) as an outfitter for the day. We would be leaving mid-morning for Jonesville and arrive back in the afternoon.

3/28 Intro to Trad Climbing: Moores Wall, NC

  • Cost: $10
    • There will be 1 class session prior to trip departure that is mandatory for trip participation.
  • This trip is designed for those participants who want to break out the same old climbing rut and try their hand at a new climbing experience.  Participants will learn how to use trad gear, proper placement and protection techniques, mock leading, and may even get to take to the sharp end if their skills prove worthy!

3/28 SUP Trip: Belews Lake, NC

  • Cost: $10
  • Do the open waters call to you? If so, come enjoy a relaxing paddle and lunch on the temperate waters of Belews lake.

April

4/3 – 4/5 Sea Kayaking Overnight: Bear Island, NC (Easter Weekend)

  • Cost: $55
  • ​Join Captain Jack and first mate Goose Millsaps for our Easter Weekend Bear Island Kayak Trip! We will leave Friday morning and head down to Hammocks Beach State Park. We will spend two nights on Bear Island before heading back to campus on Sunday. We have you covered on back country deluxe meals, all your gear, and transportation!

4/3 – 4/5 Backpacking: TBD (Easter Weekend)

  • Cost: $25
  • Join the OP family for a long weekend get away in the mountains on western NC.  We’ll leave campus on Friday morning and hit the trail to have a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of campus.  This is sure to be a great trip!

4/11 Canoeing: Dan River, NC

  • Cost:$17
  • Come out to the Dan River for a sweet day of canoeing with Ruthie and Erik! Whether we’re paddling through rapids or simply coasting along there’s no better way to spend an April Saturday

4/11 Intro to lead climbing: Rocky Face Park, NC 

  • Cost: $20
    • There will be 1 class session prior to trip departure that is mandatory for trip participation.

4/18 – 4/19 Kayak touring overnight: Roanoke River, NC

  • Cost: $42
  • Come and join Outdoor Pursuits for an incredible boating adventure into the marshlands of North Carolina. Two leaders will guide nine participants on the Roanoke River in eastern Carolina, navigating through thick mangroves via kayaks and canoes.  This is an overnight trip that will include all trip food, equipment, and camping reservations.

4/18 SKY DIVING!!! : TBD

  • Cost: $233
    • There is a $50 deposit for this trip
  • We will be taking nine lucky Wake Forest classmates to go skydiving on March 28th. We will be using North Carolina Skydiving, located in Jonesville (45 minutes away from campus) as an outfitter for the day. We would be leaving mid-morning for Jonesville and arrive back in the afternoon.

4/25 WW Rafting: Ocoee River, NC

  • Cost: $65
  • Who doesn’t love spending a Saturday cruising some level III and IV rapids? Come out to the Ocoee River, site of the 96′ olympic whitewater run, with us to have this awesome experience! The trip costs $65. Let’s go rating!

4/24 – 4/26 Backpacking: Stone Mountain State Park, NC

  • Cost: $28
  • We are planning on leading our backpacking trip to Stone Mountain state park. We will leave Friday afternoon and arrive at the trailhead with enough daylight to hike a mile and a half into an established campsite. Saturday will consist of an out and back 9 mile hike on the Mountains-to-sea trail, ending at the Devil’s Garden Overlook.  Sunday morning we will pack up camp and hike out to the trailhead. We should arrive home around midafternoon
