Campus Recreation offers both personal trainer and group fitness instructor training programs. These courses enable participants to develop the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to instruct safe and effective personal training sessions and group exercise classes for the university community. They also prepare participants for national certifications in either personal training or group fitness.
Group Fitness Instructor Training Course
Ever wonder what it takes to become a group fitness instructor? Interested in learning more? This 6-week course will provide you with the foundational theories and practical application of skills needed to lead others in their fitness journey. Whether your interest is cardio-based, mind-body or circuit training to name a few, this class will provide the opportunity to explore your interest while preparing for the AFAA Primary Group Fitness Certification. Upon the completion of this course, you will be prepared to complete both theoretical and practical segments of the certification.
*Note: Attending this training course prepares you to learn more about group fitness instruction but does not require you to take the AFAA certification course. If you elect to do so and are an active student of WFU, a student discount can be applied when registering through AFAA for the exam.
Please know that attending this course does not guarantee employment as a group fitness instructor at WFU Miller Fitness Center. The instructor course will prepare anyone who is interested in instructing; however, an interview and ‘mock’ class demonstration will be asked from all candidates who seek employment. Verification of current certification(s) held will be requested at the time of interview as well.
